Health & Well-being

We believe that every child has the right to lead a healthy life - free from violence and stigma - and have access to the healthcare they deserve.

Together, we empower schools, families and communities to access expert knowledge and opportunities to improve the well-being of their children with disabilities.

There is a critical gap in healthcare for children in Africa

In many remote areas, children with disabilities struggle to access even basic healthcare, while girls facing period poverty often miss school due to a lack of menstrual products and support. For millions, managing menstrual and reproductive health is still out of reach, impacting not just education, but long-term well-being.

We’re working to change that. We partner with medical institutions, governments, and communities to create affordable, community-led solutions that bridge the healthcare gap, ensuring girls, children with disabilities, and their families can stay healthy and thrive.

We understand that good health is essential for children to reach their full potential and this is why our programs address a broad range of needs, ensuring children have access to essential healthcare services and fostering a healthy lifestyle.

Empowering girls with reproductive health education and mental health support

We believe every girl deserves access to reproductive health education and the resources to manage her well-being with dignity. That’s why we not only provide menstrual hygiene products and education, but also teach girls how to make them, giving them confidence and control over their health, while helping them stay in school and engaged in their communities.

Our Felicity Mobile Clinic brings healthcare directly to those who need it most. From girls to families in remote villages, we reach people who might otherwise go years without seeing a doctor, offering vital checkups, testing, and support right at their doorstep.

Keeping children healthy so they can learn. We are improving the health of children through school-based community health.

At Hope for African Children, we’re committed to ensuring kids have access to clean water, proper sanitation, and hygiene in schools, because staying healthy starts with the basics. When students are well, they’re better able to learn and thrive.

We also care deeply about mental well-being. Through partnerships with medical professionals from Vanderbilt and Meharry Medical Schools, we organize medical missions that offer mental health support, as well as treatments for cleft palates, congenital conditions, and more, bringing care and hope to those who need it most.

We take a holistic approach to caring for children and working with children, caregivers, families, communities, education and health services and businesses to design, adapt, test and implement evidence-based early childhood development solutions.

We work with parents and caregivers both on their own literacy and on supporting their children’s holistic development.

We strengthen parenting capacity through home visits, parenting groups and health facilities, parenting meetings in preschools and a reading programme.

We offer health screening and antenatal care for expectant mothers and support affordable, high-quality childcare, enabling women to work.

We conduct children’s routine growth monitoring and counseling, and provide nutritional supplements when required.

We offer quality pre-primary education, improve the quality of existing government and private preschools and help establish and equip community-owned preschools.

We train and support community health and education workforce, managers and policymakers to ensure safe, stimulating and nurturing early learning and development environments for young children.
