Education

Education is a vital human right that we need to protect people everywhere, especially girls and children with disabilities.

Our work at HOPE embraces the idea that all young people deserve a quality learning experience that respects diversity, enables participation, removes barriers, and anticipates variety of learning needs and preferences.

Inclusive learning that promotes 21st century skills and competencies

We recognize that a strong educational foundation is vital for building a brighter future for girls and children with disabilities in Africa. Our approach is multifaceted, addressing various aspects that constitute learning inequity for this demography.

Our key focus is ensuring inclusivity by providing specialized programs for children with disabilities and those with learning differences, especially those with learning difficulties in English and math. This ensures every child has the opportunity to thrive despite individual challenges. We understand the importance of strong foundational skills and implement programs in literacy, reading, and basic math in both English and local languages. This equips children with the building blocks for further academic success.

We're closing the gender gap in school options and championing girls' education

We are at the forefront of championing girls’ education. We recognize the transformative power of education for girls, empowering them to break away from poverty, become leaders and agents of change within their communities. The girls we work with are at the center of our programming. We value student engagement. We actively consult and involve students in the learning process. This fosters a sense of ownership and creates a more positive and responsive learning environment.

We train and strengthen the capacity of educators to better support the education of girls and children with disabilities.

Investing in teachers

Investing in teachers is another pillar of our strategy. We provide regular workshops and knowledge-sharing opportunities to enhance teaching skills and pedagogy. This ensures educators are well-equipped to guide and support their students in the classroom.

Our HOPE centers and programs provide access to quality inclusion training, trauma-informed practices and teacher support services in remote rural areas. The inclusive schools that we support use an equity-centered active learning approach that encourages teamwork and a pluralist ethos. They operate to international best practice standards, using locally sensitive curricula and languages.

Our Solution

We work at a deeply local level, partnering with communities, teachers and local governments to create a culture centered around education, ensuring that children have access to education from the earliest point in their life through secondary school. Working with the parents, we ensure that children are given the resources and support necessary to earn a quality education. In addition to our local programs, we provide service opportunities for young people, families, and companies who also believe in the power of education.

Offering safe, stimulating and nurturing early learning environments for young children with disabilities.

Providing a safe space for high school learners (between the ages of 13 – 18 years) to be equipped and empowered within their own community to achieve their full potential.

Our programmes target individuals who have struggled academically, providing them with focused educational support, mentorship, and practical learning opportunities.

Through tailored workshops, we address critical themes of emotional resilience, leadership, and time management, complemented by holiday programmes that enhance teamwork and relationship-building skills.
